Rand Pecknold was named the New England Hockey Writer's Association coach of the year today.

Here's my Register column on Pecknold, who chose to turn down UMass and remain at QU last summer. His name could still be bandied about for job openings, but AD Jack McDonald says the number of schools that can boast a  better opportunity than Quinnipiac are dwindling.

The New England Hockey Writers also picked Eric Hartzell as its all-New England goalie.
