A weekend sweep that extended Quinnipiac's unbeaten streak to 21, coupled with Minnesota's split with St. Cloud State, was enough to bump the Bobcats to the top slot in the USCHO.com poll.
Quinnipiac took 41 of 50 first-place votes. Minnesota received the other nine.
It's the first No. 1 ranking for the school, and the first for an ECAC team since Yale during the 2010-11 season.
Chip has covered Yale and Quinnipiac hockey for the New Haven Register since 1999. His book "Hockey Haven: How Yale and Quinnipiac reached the top of the college game" chronicles the rise of both programs and their magical run to the 2013 national championship game.
