Quinnipiac coach Rand Pecknold is taking Wednesday and Thursday off in the midst of his team's preparation for a Frozen Four game against St. Cloud State next Thursday. He's got a good reason. His wife, Nikki, will deliver the couple's fourth child on Wednesday.
"It wasn't great planning on the part of a hockey coach," Pecknold said. "But we're obviously excited."
The Pecknolds have two girls and a boy. They won't know the sex of the new baby until it's delivered. So it's hard to make guesses if the bundle of joy will have a name connected to the events of the past few days (or coming days). Suggestions? If it's a girl: Pittsburgh Pecknold. And if it's a boy? How about Matthew Peca Pecknold.
"I really hope not," Peca said. "I hope they come up with something more clever than that."
