Quinnipiac University Men’s Ice Hockey Head Coach Rand Pecknold has been selected as ECAC Hockey’s representative on the NCAA Division I Men’s Ice Hockey committee. Pecknold will serve on the committee for the 2011-12 and 2012-13 seasons.
The committee, which has the primary responsibilities of selecting the teams, sites and seeding of the NCAA Men’s Ice Hockey Tournament, is comprised of five individuals, with ECAC Hockey, Central Collegiate Hockey Association, Hockey East, Atlantic Hockey and the Western Collegiate Hockey Association represented.
"I am honored to represent ECAC Hockey on the NCAA Men's Ice Hockey Tournament Selection Committee,” Pecknold said. “With only five committee members it is a huge responsibility and I am excited to serve the sport that has given me so much."
Quinnipiac Director of Athletics and Recreation Jack McDonald previously served as chair of the NCAA Ice Hockey Committee, while on the NCAA Championships and Competition Cabinet from 1998 to 2002, where he championed bracket expansion from 12 to 16 teams.
"Rand's appointment to the NCAA Men's Ice Hockey Championship Committee is another benchmark in his outstanding career as a Division I coach,” McDonald said. “His 17 years of experience will be welcomed by the NCAA Committee. I am sure that he will represent Quinnipiac, ECAC Hockey and all of men's ice hockey very, very well."
